The Bondi STP is located in the iconic beach side suburb of Bondi in Sydney’s East.
The treatment plant has a multi channel inlet works capable of processing in excess of 6000L/s in peak wet weather conditions.
In 2004 the treatment plant was upgraded to improve reliability and the works include new fine screens and grit treatment equipment.
The inlet works structure contains eight channels that house mechanically raked bar screens. After assessing hydraulic data and modeling the flow, velocity and head loss characteristics, four (4) Brackett Green CF200/1500/2000 Band Screens produced by Tasman Water were selected for the duty.
The high flow capability of the CF200® Band Screen enabled the specified flow rates to be easily processed with minimal head loss values, when compared to other straight through type screens.
Being an underground plant and having very limited access, the CF200® Band Screens were assembled onsite within each channel. All screenings are sluiced to a screenings washing facility comprising of several stirred cell wash presses.
Screened wastewater is pumped through a Brackett Brieden® Strainer with 500 micron aperture and re-used as spray water on each CF200® Band Screen.
The screens have been operating since 2005 successfully.
The hydraulic and grit loading of the inlet works can increase by over 20 times during storm events, further highlighting the CF200® ability to handle varying influent conditions.
